What Information Do You Need Before Ordering a Custom Line Jacket?

Ordering a custom line jacket is much easier when all of the personalization information is organized before the order is submitted. The goal is to confirm the jacket itself first, then confirm each embroidery location one at a time.

Browse our D9 Premium Windbreakers or the broader Custom Greek Apparel collection while planning your design.

1. Jacket size

Choose the size using the listing's measurements before deciding where embroidery will go. Think about whether the jacket will be worn over a shirt, sweatshirt or other layer. For measurement help, use our Custom Jacket Size Guide.

2. Jacket color

Confirm the base jacket color and any contrast colors first. Embroidery thread colors should be chosen after the jacket colors are finalized so the text and crest remain readable.

3. Front crest or emblem

Decide whether you want a crest, shield, letters or another emblem on the front. The left chest is a common focal area because it provides a clean, balanced space without competing with sleeve or back embroidery.

4. Front letters, name or chapter

The opposite chest can be used for Greek letters, a chapter name, member name or another short detail. Keep longer text smaller so it remains readable and does not overpower the crest.

5. Line name

If your design includes a line name, decide whether it belongs on the back, chest or another location. On many full-custom jackets, the line name works well across the upper back.

6. Line number

Confirm the number exactly as it should appear. If the number is the main visual element on the back, it should be large enough to serve as the central focal point without interfering with the top and bottom wording.

7. Crossing season and year

Write the season and year exactly as you want them stitched, for example Spring 2026, Fall 24 or another preferred format. Sleeve placement is often useful because it keeps the front and back from becoming overloaded.

8. Chapter initials

Chapter initials are another detail that can work well on a sleeve. Double-check all Greek characters and initials before submitting the order, especially when the design includes letters that can be visually similar.

9. Ship or group name

If the jacket includes a ship or group name, confirm spelling, punctuation and capitalization. This is often placed below the large back number when the jacket has a traditional line-jacket layout.

10. Review the full layout before production

Before approving the final design, review every placement as one complete jacket: front left, front right, left sleeve, right sleeve and back. Our embroidery placement guide can help you decide how much information belongs in each area.

Examples of customizable line jackets

For a classic personalized example, see the Zeta Phi Beta Custom Embroidered Line Jacket. For a two-tone style, see the Premium 2-Tone Zeta Phi Beta Crossing Line Jacket.

Ordering multiple line jackets

For line or chapter orders, prepare a separate row for every member with size, line name, number, crossing year, chapter initials and any individual name. Then use our Bulk Apparel Lots section and read the Chapter, Line & Group Ordering Guide.

FAQ

Should I submit all personalization at once?

Yes. Supplying complete information together reduces the chance that a detail is missed or interpreted incorrectly.

Can every jacket in a group order have different names and numbers?

Yes, when the listing and customization setup allow individual personalization. Keep each member's details clearly separated.

What should I double-check most carefully?

Names, Greek letters, chapter initials, years, numbers and exact back wording should all be checked before approving production.
